How to stick gneiss on a wall

Gneiss cladding with the beautiful Ivaylovgrad stone is preferred for both exterior and interior walls. Many people prefer to do the tiling themselves. We will give them basic tips so that they can successfully cope with the task and achieve a well-glued cladding.

Choose a suitable adhesive for gluing the tiles

Gneiss from Valmarg Stone is a natural stone material. Therefore, the fastening of the gneiss boards to the wall is done by gluing with cement glue.

Both the unformed gneiss polygonal slabs and the cut stone offered by Valmarg Stone are between 1.5 and 4.5 cm thick. The slabs are almost always of different thickness. Therefore, a thicker layer of terracotta should be used for gluing the thinner plates . To achieve quality adhesion, you must use special adhesives in which the strength of the adhesive and the elasticity of the adhesive itself remain equally good regardless of the thickness of the adhesive layer.

Preparing the walls for cladding

If you are going to line the walls of a newly built home, you have to wait about 3 months, and if possible a little longer, to achieve the collapse of the building.

The walls must be clean, free of dirt. If there are cracks or bumps, you need to apply a repair solution to smooth it. After drying, prime and wait up to 5 hours for the primer to dry.

Waterproofing is important when laying Ivaylovgrad stone cladding . It limits the penetration of moisture from the inside of the wall to the surface of the gneiss slabs.

Adhesive requirements

In order to achieve a minimum absorption of water from the plates when applying the adhesive, it must be quick-setting .

In order to be able to glue tiles of different thickness, the adhesive must be suitable for applying a thicker layer, up to 20 mm.

The trowel with which you apply the glue must have a tooth size of at least 8 x 8 mm.

Selection of grout after gluing the tiles

When choosing a mixture for grouting the gneiss cladding from Ivaylovgrad , it must have high water resistance, high elasticity and be resistant to dirt.

Be careful not to scratch the tiles during operation

If there are scratches on the tiles, they will absorb the color of the grout. Scratches also facilitate the penetration of moisture from the adhesive solution. In addition to changing the color, moisture also causes the dissolution of minerals contained in the stone.

Provide the necessary materials and tools and take care of the preparation of the walls, and then the cladding and grouting. The result will delight you, not only with the beauty of the gneiss cladding, but also because you laid it with your own hands.
