The courtyard flooring with grass joint is a long-standing tradition, known to all, visiting Renaissance houses. Filling the joints between paving stones is a modern practice, but it is not as attractive and in tune with the nearness of nature, so up-to-date. And leaving the grass between the joints creates a natural mosaic in which the Ivaylovgrad gneiss plates stand out with their beauty.
In addition to the gneiss graceful layout, this solution is easier to perform and takes less time – crucial factors for those who have decided to form a grass joint in their yard.
Follow the already formed paths
In each yard, before a full floor is placed or paths are built, the living and visiting people tramps a paths, that you should just follow, if the grass joint will only be a passage, not a complete coverage of the area.
Cleaning the grass below the area where the slabs are going to be laid.
Before you start laying the slabs, we recommend that you clear the lawn in the appropriate area – a trail or a complete pavement. This will make it easier to tramp the soil and maximize the leveling of the pitch. This will prevent curvature of the path or pavement later on.
Arrangement of slabs
You have to pick up the plates and arrange them so that they are facing upwards when placed in the floor. Polygonal plates require some adjustment to give a more attractive look to the pavement.
Shaping the joints between the slabs
Once you have set up the plates, you must fill the joints between them with soil. The level of the soil should not be equal to the level of the plates, but be slightly lower by about 1 centimeter.
This is necessary in order not to tramp the grass when it fills the joints.
The joint width must not be more than 10 centimeters. If it is larger than this width, it would be uncomfortable to step from slab to slab.
Trail or flooring with large slabs
The path or pavement, formed with large slabs, requires more time to prepare the soil beneath it. When planning paving with large slabs, you need to prepare a base for them and to feed the soil, so that the grass can be seen as a really connecting plate.
How to build the base of a footpath or stone pavement
When building a gneiss trail or pavement from Ivaylovgrad, the base includes one or two layers. One layer is used for walkways or floors that will not be too busy. Two layers are used for heavier walkways and pavements.
At the bottom is a layer of a basic cobblestone with a soil to fill the voids. A soil is poured on the cobblestones. Top up with sand or gravel to ensure the stability of the trail. A thin layer of sand is poured onto this layer to achieve leveling.
For one-layer base paths, only one layer of sand or gravel is formed, topped with sand for leveling.
Lawn Care and Grout Care
In order to maintain the beauty of the pavement, the grass in the joints should be watered regularly. From time to time it needs to be mowed. The joints themselves easily retain waste, so they must be cleaned periodically.
